Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday inaugurated a ‘health ATM’, a first in Karnataka, during the Kalyana Karnataka Utsav in Kalaburagi. The project was launched under the ‘Arokya Mitra’ scheme.

HP Enterprises, under its CSR scheme, donated 25 health ATM machines which provide “preventive” healthcare to citizens. The ATMs are completely automated and can screen people for up to 50 parameters. A person needs only to stand on the machine scale and place his or her palm to get readings such as blood pressure etc.

“The Health ATM is a touch screen kiosk designed to manage health-related information and allows indi- viduals to access their personal health information at any time through any inter- net-connected web browser,” HP Enterprises said.

“It can screen more than 70 health parameters, including the patient’s height, weight, body temperature, blood glucose, blood pressure, invasive and non-invasive blood tests, heart check-up and oxygen saturation levels within fifteen minutes followed by an instant report.”

Earlier this year, HP set up 50 such health kiosks in tourist destinations of Himachal Pradesh along the Char Dham route including Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath.

If the kiosks prove a success, the state government plans to set up similar ATMs in major cities across Karnataka.
